When I was my daughter’s age, I tried anything and everything creative to keep myself busy, and one time, I enrolled in a Chinese watercolor class at the local arts center. I was, by far, the youngest person in the class, and had never really explored art of that style before, but I thought,”what the heck.”
The ritual of it really struck me - the tools and how they were used, the heavy stone ink well, the block of imprinted ink that had to be ground with water, the repetitive motions of the bamboo handled brush as it created each of a cherry blossom’s petals…
I loved it. And these two gems remind me of that class. Maligano jasper and (Merlinite) dendritic opal, with fused gold dust.
Sterling and fine silver settings with 14K gold dust and accents. 20” cable chain with hand-forged clasp. Pendant measures 2 5/8” total length and is 1 1/2” at its widest.
