For more than 30 years, Emily has been creating jewelry from found objects, gems, and precious metals. A high school job at a crafts store spurred an already active hobbyist into becoming a student of lost-wax metal casting in Italy and fabrication at the University of Georgia, eventually becoming an apprentice to a master goldsmith and a Jewelry Design graduate of SUNY- FIT. Emily has worked for and with numerous
renowned artisan jewelers over the years, soaking up knowledge and techniques distinct to each of those artists.
Emily’s own work at Mavens Jewelry uses classical techniques to create playful, elegant one-of-a-kind pieces with an eye for unique gemstones and a painterly use of mixed metals. While production for Mavens Jewelry began in 2009, it was relegated to the
background as Emily continued her education in the broader business of retail and online jewelry, working for larger companies in operations management, vendor relations, and merchandising, as well as procurement of both gemstones and fine antique jewelry.
At long last in 2025, Mavens Jewelry became a full-time obsession, and Emily is now a one-woman business working in her home studio in eastern Washington. Inspired by the interaction of color, pattern, and texture, she often creates with seemingly mismatched gemstones to create a new harmony, a fresh and exciting array.
